  • The death was violent or unnatural
  • The cause of death is unknown
  • The person died in prison, police custody, or another type of state detention

H.M. Senior Coroner is Jeremy Chipperfield. The Senior Assistant Coroner is Crispin A. Oliver, M.A. and the Assistant Coroners are J. R. Leslie Hamilton LL.M. F.R.C.S., Oliver Longstaff B.A., Tanyka Rawden and James E Thompson.

The Coroner’s Service is based on the fourth floor of the Civic Centre, North Terrace, Crook.
